Melika Butcher is a Director of Instruction with Attuned Education Partners. With over a decade of experience in urban education, supporting teachers and leaders in their development as content experts, equity-driven educators and culturally responsive instructors is at the heart of her passion. Prior to joining Attuned, Melika served as a Principal with Uncommon Schools.
During her tenure as Principal, her school achieved double digit gains in both English and Language Arts and in Mathematics. She received Uncommon’s “Rookie Principal of the Year” award in 2019 for effectively turning around both student and staff culture and student achievement in her school during her first year as Principal. Melika has also trained aspiring Principals over her tenure as a school leader, two of whom will be starting their principalship in the 22-23 school year. Prior to school leadership, Melika served in many capacities, including as an Instructional Leader, Dean of Students, Curriculum and PD Planner, and English and Language Arts teacher. Melika started her career in education with Teach for America, teaching middle school English and Language Arts in Newark, New Jersey.
Melika holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester, a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education, and she is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University.
